I felt like an actual TV sports commentator co-hosting an Excel Battle at the Global Excel Summit along with my MVP colleague Jordan Goldmeier.
The Financial Modeling Word Cup organizes these battles regularly worldwide, and their “All-Star Battle” has even made it into the American TV Sports channel ESPN8.
The problems are not easy to solve, and competitors must come up with a solution within 30 minutes.
For this battle, the case was about slot-machine reels. It had five levels of increasing complexity and difficulty and was an exciting challenge.
I did solve the problem myself before the event, but not in 30 minutes. So, all my admiration and respect go out to all the competitors, especially the ones who achieved full marks! The Excel Esports format is about being able to think under pressure and solve real-life case studies in Excel in a quite limited timeframe. Or just watching these amazing professionals instead. 😁
The recording of this battle is available on the Global Excel Summit platform and also at the FMWC website. The full rankings can be found here.
