On February 2, 2023, I had the pleasure of presenting to the Vancouver Power BI & Modern Excel Meetup group about my new passion in Excel: Dynamic Array Functions.
If you use Excel 2021 or Microsoft 365 (or even a free Microsoft account using Excel for the Web), you can take advantage of the new calculation engine in Excel. The big thing about it is its ability to have one formula in one cell that can generate multiple results in multiple cells.
I explained the fundamental concepts and presented some business scenarios where this new behavior in Excel has been extremely useful.
At least 20 new Excel functions were created in recent years to take advantage of this new calculation engine, but most of the old functions, like VLOOKUP and SUMIF, for example, can also take advantage of this new functionality and be used in new ways in our spreadsheets.
Developing solutions in Excel became even more exciting than before: easier, faster, and less prone to error. In some scenarios, they can replace VBA, Power Query, and Pivot Tables with the great advantage over all these of instantly updating results without the need to click a button to refresh.
